While several companies are jumping on the smartwatch bandwagon, it’s not clear who exactly is buying these wearable picture-taking, texting, time-telling machines. Or, for that matter, if this wearable fad is here to stay.
A study released Thursday by consumer analytics firm On Device Research and telecoms analyst firm CCS Insight shows that many people have heard of smartwatches and other wearable technology, but ownership is still fairly low. The study’s data is based on a survey of more than 1,500 smartphone owners in the US and UK.

If you often feel the need to view or edit Microsoft Office documents on the go, then today brings exciting news; Google is now offering its cloud-based Quickoffice app for iOS and Android – which was previously being sold for $14.99 at both the App Store and Play Store – completely free of cost. The app enables you to access Office documents straight from your mobile device, and allows editing Word files, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations, as well as uploading these files to your Google Drive account.
The news comes after Apple made its iWork apps free for all users who are buying new Apple iDevices. Clearly a counterattack by Google against their strategy, and one with additional benefits. The app has no device-restrictions to speak of, looks pretty fantastic and comes packaged with loads of useful features including an extra 10GB worth of Google Drive space. Briefly: PhotoPresenter for iOS released, Yahoo Screen launches

Boinx Software today released its latest product, PhotoPresenter for iOS. Suitable for impromptu 'show-and-tell' situations, PhotoPresenter lets users display a device's photo library by connecting their iPhone, iPad or iPod to an HDTV set or a projector through HDMI, VGA or AirPlay. The audience of the images sees only what is selected to be displayed, and presenters can jump freely between media files. Available for $1, PhotoPresenter can be purchased via the iTunes App Store.

Yahoo adds customizable filters and pro editing tools to Flickr for iOS

Yahoo's Instagram competitor has received a facelift and a slew of new options on iOS today. The Flickr app for iPhone now includes an even wider array of filters, all of which can be applied and previewed before capturing a photo. Yahoo's calling them live filters and they're part of an enhanced set of camera tools, which include grid overlays, pinch-to-zoom, and exposure and focus locks.

Should the prefab filters not be to your taste, you're given options to tweak and customize your own. Perhaps the most notable improvement, however, is Flickr's inclusion of its pro editing tools in the free app — you can crop or sharpen photos, add vignettes for an artsy look, or adjust colors and levels for even more granular control.
