Schon in den nächsten Tagen soll es soweit sein und eine neue Android Version verfügbar sein. Dabei handelt es sich um Android 4.4.1. Das will jedenfalls der Insider Footballer erfahren haben. Angeblich soll das HTC One Google Play Edition das erste Modell sein, welches das Android 4.4.1 Update erhält. Schwer zu glauben, da als erstes mit Sicherheit die Nexus Devices, auf jeden Fall aber das Nexus 5, damit bestückt werden. Und erst dann kann ich mir vorstellen, dass das HTC One Google Play Edition Android 4.4.1 Update kommen wird.

Knapp einen Monat nach dem Android 4.4 Release soll nun in den nächsten Tagen bereits eine neue Android Version erscheinen. Bei Android 4.4.1 handelt es sich wahrscheinlich um eine Bugfix-Sammlung. Noch ist aber schwer zu sagen, welche Bugs damit gefixt werden sollen. Denn größere Fehler sind bislang nicht aufgetreten. Vielleicht schraubt Google ja bei Android 4.4.1 noch einmal an der Performance-Schraube?

New Gestures in Chrome for Android

One of the most annoying features in Chrome for Android has been finally removed in the latest beta release: swiping from the edge of the screen to switch tabs. It's very easy to trigger this gesture accidentally when you open desktop sites and some sites use similar gestures (Google Image Search).

Google replaced it with a gesture that's less error-prone: "swipe horizontally across the top toolbar to quickly switch tabs". It's hard to this accidentally when browsing the web. Google added other gestures: "Drag vertically down from the toolbar to enter into the tab switcher view. And drag down from the menu to open the menu and select the item you want without having to lift your finger. Zoom into your preferred magnification on any desktop web site by double tapping on the page and swiping your finger up-down without lifting it."

Android VP Hugo Barra leaves Google, joins Chinese phone maker Xiaomi

Update: We have received a statement from Google that confirms Hugo Barra's departure:

"We wish Hugo Barra the best. We'll miss him at Google and we're excited that he is staying within the Android ecosystem."

Update 2: Barra's taken to Google+ to announce that he will indeed be joining Xiaomi as VP Global in a few weeks. We've added his blog post after the break and have updated the post to reflect the confirmation. Xiaomi has also confirmed the appointment.
Barely a month after he was showing off Google's new Nexus 7 tablet Hugo Barra is departing to join Xiaomi, according to AllThingsD. Part of Google since March 2008, as the Vice President of product management for Android he's been a regular face to anyone that's watched Google I/O events and Nexus product launches over the past few years. With his exit Barra follows Android creator Andy Rubin, who stepped away from the Android team three months earlier. It's a huge score for Xiaomi, a company that goes from strength to strength in China, with smartphones that run on a heavily customized (and customizable) Android ROM. The company's also dabbled in smart TV boxes, which could make for a very familiar role for a former Googler. According to Xiaomi, he will be in charge of steering the company's global expansion starting in October.
