Criminal gangs from Romania are targeting European cities by flying in on low-cost airlines to commit their crimes before returning home 'in time for tea', the director of Europol has warned.

Rob Wainwright described the gangs as 'petty criminals operating across multiple jurisdictions', adding that they are active across Europe, it was reported today.

He warned that criminals are flying in and out of a country in just one day, making it hard for local police.

If you’re attending World Maker Faire in New York next month, be sure to see the progress Chuck Fletcher has made on his InMoov robot, an open source humanoid robot that anyone can print and motorize.

I will be brining a fully articulated and animated 3D printed humanoid animatronic robot. The build is based on the open source InMoov project by Gael Langevin. This is an amazing project with hundreds of parts and a growing community of makers adding freatures like eye tracking, hand and finger control using the Kinect and LeapMotion devices. The build is underway, and will be complete in time for World Maker Faire. I believe there have been InMoov bots partially assembled at other Maker Faires, but this robot will be a complete upper body build.

Welcome to another day of the Nairobi mall siege, with still no confirmation that attackers have been cleared from the the Westgate complex, despite repeated claims from Kenyan ministers that a resolution is imminent.
The interior minister Joseph Ole Lenku said on Monday night the evacuation of hostages had gone "very, very well" and officials were "very certain" there were few if any left in the building.
The ministry said late on Monday night on Twitter it was "in control" of the complex.

I’ve been reading Scott Berkun’s book The Year Without Pants which details his working life at Wordpress. The book reveals a thought-provoking collection of lore behind Wordpress and in particular, the day-to-day operations of a distributed volunteer team who built a technology that powers about 20% of the internet.
Scott embeds insightful gems about daily startup work life into his stories. My favorite so far is this one:
